"I compared every option for 8 months. Ireland won on every metric that actually mattered."

I had offers from universities in Canada and Germany as well, but Ireland was the only place that combined a world-class degree, English language, real tech companies (not just regional offices), and a proper post-study visa. The Stamp 1G gave me the breathing room to be selective about which job I took — I didn't have to accept the first offer I got.

TCD's Computer Science program was genuinely excellent — the research project I did in my final semester became the basis of my Google interview portfolio. I got my Google offer 4 months after graduating. The salary growth in the 3 years since has been significant.

"Cork surprised me. I expected Dublin — but Cork's pharma industry is where the real opportunities are."

My family was worried about Ireland — they'd heard it was expensive and far. My parents did their own research and found it safer, more affordable, and better connected to India than they expected. The Indian community in Cork isn't as large as Dublin but it's tight-knit and genuinely supportive.

UCC's pharma program had direct links to Pfizer's Cork operations — we did a 3-month placement there as part of the course. That placement converted to a full-time offer 2 months before I graduated. I never had to cold-apply anywhere.

"My parents asked about ROI. After 2 years at JP Morgan, I've fully recovered my investment — and the salary growth continues."

I was a CA finalist in India and wanted an international qualification that would open global doors. UCD Smurfit was the obvious choice — it's well-regarded globally, not just in Ireland, and the IFSC connections are real. My finance professor had spent 20 years at Goldman Sachs before joining academia — the industry knowledge was exceptional.

Finding a job took me about 5 months — longer than I'd hoped, but finance hiring in the IFSC is competitive and the processes are thorough. The salary when I finally landed the JP Morgan role made the wait completely worthwhile. I'm now on a clear path to a senior analyst role.

"I had no tech background — BCom graduate. DCU's data analytics program completely transformed my career trajectory."

People told me data analytics wasn't for commerce graduates. DCU proved them wrong. The program starts from fundamentals — I went from basic Excel to Python, SQL, and machine learning in 12 months. The pace was intense but the support structure was excellent.

DCU's location in Dublin's tech corridor meant industry professionals guest-lectured every week. I met my Accenture recruiter at a DCU industry event 6 months before graduating. The networking during the course was as valuable as the curriculum itself. I'd tell every commerce graduate: don't rule out a tech pivot.

Suresh Patel
Project Manager, IBM Ireland
NCI IBM €48,000/yr
"Project management's cross-sector value gave me options. I could have gone into pharma, tech, or finance — I chose tech."

I had 4 years of IT project management experience in India, which helped enormously with both the course and the job hunt. NCI's location in the IFSC meant I was networking with finance and tech professionals from day one. The project management community in Ireland is tight and well-connected.

I'd advise anyone doing project management to join the Project Management Institute (PMI) Ireland chapter immediately on arrival. Attend every event. The community helped me find my IBM role through a direct referral — I never posted a CV publicly.
